JD Dravecky has built his career on the belief that great relationships are good business. As Swenson Shear’s CEO, he has brought a broad network of contacts to the company to help support its mission of creating the best, most useful cutting tools in the industry.
Since joining Swenson Shear in 2011, JD has been instrumental in reaching out to customers, listening to their needs, and anticipating the tools they will need for their changing businesses. The result is products that combine a modern sensibility with the craftsmanship and reliability that has made Swenson Shear the longtime industry leader.
With his promotion to CEO earlier this year, JD has been focused on launching the next generation of products for the rapidly growing metal roofing market. The 1 Arm Bandit, which debuted in 2012, has quickly become the number one cutting product for stone-coated steel. Swenson Shear recently streamlined its classic Snap Table into the SnapTableHD, resulting not only in a more efficient product, but one at an incredibly affordable price point.
Quality craftsmanship, combined with reinvigorated research and development, has spurred 57 percent growth since JD’s arrival at Swenson Shear. And the industry is taking notice: Swenson Shear’s profit margin has climbed 12 percent in one year.
“If it needs to be cut, we can make it,” JD says. “I want customers to use our products and say, ‘Where have you been all my life?’ ”
JD graduated from Grand Canyon University with a degree in business administration and set out to build a career based on his natural abilities as a people person. He was the marketing manager for SnapFinger.com in Denver, building relationships in the tech and sales industries, before joining Swenson Shear.
Swenson Shear is a natural fit for JD. His grandfather founded the storied Falmer, Inc., screw machine shop – a company his uncles now run – that has prospered for nearly 70 years. JD spent part of his childhood in California while his dad, Dave Dravecky, pitched for the San Francisco Giants. When he’s not at work, you can find JD enjoying time with his wife, Joy, and their two young sons.
